^ top ^Demand 13: Promotion of (rookie) IT Experts
There is an acute lack of IT experts and of know-how for an effective protection against cyberattacks in Europe. This problem is acerbated by the actions of IT experts who develop tools aiming at the compromise of infrastructure instead of working to improve the security. Currently, teaching curricula are being stripped of modules that treat the societal implications of technology. This development must be reversed.
Our detailed demands:
- The quality of IT products must be significantly improved, especially under the aspect of IT security, in order to reduce number and impact of vulnerabilities.
- Authorities and private sector enterprises must invest in experts with the right qualifications, especially in IT and IT security.
- Academic education must be broadened to cover ethical an political aspects of technology, and evaluation of the impact of technology on society.
